Recent data published by a company called Net Applications suggests that Google's Chrome is now the most widely used browser, with a 41.67% market share, putting it just ahead of Internet Explorer on 41.37% (in fact the figure for Internet Explorer includes Edge, the replacement used in Windows 10). A distant third place is Mozilla's Firefox, at just under 10%. Fourth spot is taken by Apple's Safari at a fraction under 5%, although it is restricted to Macs. Coming in at number 5 is Opera, just under 2%. These are the figures for desktop/laptops. On smartphones and tablets, Chrome (for Android) and Safari (for iOS) totally dominate.
Most people find that they have to use two browsers in order to experience the web in all its glory. The days of some sites only working with Internet Explorer are well gone, but niggles, incompatibilities and poor experiences remain common problems.
