Sometimes it is the small things that really annoy. The other day I had a call from a customer who had just switched to Office 2010 and was being driven mad by the crazy default line spacing in Word. For reasons best known to Microsoft, documents are really spaced out, with what looks like a blank line between each line of text. Fortunately, it's easy to fix. Open Word. Make sure you are on the Home tab of the Ribbon. Click on the Line and Paragraph Spacing icon and you'll see this drop-down menu. The cause isn't what you'd think - the line spacing value - it's the spacing after each paragraph which is the culprit. Click on 'Remove Space After Paragraph'. Click on the icon again and this time choose Line Spacing Options. Click on 'Set as Default'. You will get a prompt asking whether you want it to apply to 'This document only?' or 'All documents based on the Normal.dotm template?'. Choose the latter and click on OK. Come out of Word. Don't save the document or the changes. The problem is now fixed.
